What the NOC does for your file

It answers the consulate's core worry, will you return, with a simple institutional signal: you have a job to come back to, and your employer expects you. It typically states your role, tenure, approved leave dates, and that your position remains open.

What a good NOC includes

• Company letterhead, signed by HR or a manager
• Your name, designation and length of employment
• The exact trip dates and confirmation that leave is approved
• A line stating your job continues on return

If your employer won't (or can't) give one

• Use a plain leave-approval email if a formal NOC isn't possible, anything on record showing approved leave helps.
• Lean harder on other ties: property, home loan, family responsibilities, investments.
• Explain it in your cover letter. A brief, honest line about company policy beats a suspicious gap.

If you're self-employed, a student or retired

You don't need an employer NOC at all. Self-employed applicants show business registration and ITRs; students show a bonafide letter and leave approval; retirees show pension proof. The NOC is a salaried-applicant document, not a universal requirement.
